Pokémon Showdown, Smogon & Artwork Data Sources | FavePoke
Review the Pokémon Showdown rules, Smogon usage statistics, PokéAPI index and artwork sources used by FavePoke, plus update and accuracy notes.

Source Summary
FavePoke combines several community-maintained sources for different purposes. Competitive rules and battle entities come from Pokémon Showdown snapshots; format usage and common sets come from Smogon statistics snapshots; the general picker index and displayed Pokémon imagery come from PokéAPI projects. Each source remains the work of its respective maintainers and rights holders.
Pokémon Showdown Competitive Data
The competitive Team Builder uses a versioned snapshot built from the open-source Pokémon Showdown simulator. The upstream source is published in the smogon/pokemon-showdown repository.
For the supported Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and Pokémon Champions catalogs, the snapshot includes:
- Supported format names, clauses, bans, team-size rules, levels, restricted-Pokémon limits, and whether mechanics such as Tera are allowed.
- Legal Pokémon forms, types, base stats, abilities, required items or moves, and format availability.
- Moves, move categories, power, accuracy, priority, learnsets, items, abilities, and natures. FavePoke also constructs fallback presets from these entities and retains presets that pass the snapshot's Pokémon Showdown validator.
FavePoke converts this data into smaller, versioned catalog files and serves them from its own URLs. A visitor does not request the catalog directly from Pokémon Showdown or GitHub while editing a team. The source version used by the current catalog is displayed inside the builder.
Fallback presets are generated by FavePoke and are not official or hand-authored Pokémon Showdown sets. FavePoke's validation and analysis are its own interpretation of the snapshot. Pokémon Showdown and Smogon do not review or endorse FavePoke results. A recently changed rule or an interaction not represented by FavePoke can produce a different result in the simulator or at an official event.
Smogon Usage Statistics
Where a supported format has a usable sample, FavePoke uses a versioned monthly snapshot from Smogon usage statistics. These aggregate battle statistics can include usage rates and common teammates, moves, abilities, items, Tera Types, and EV or nature configurations.
The builder uses this historical sample to rank relevant choices and generate around locked team members. It displays the statistics month, rating cutoff, and number of battles when that data is active. Formats without a sufficient sample use a rules-based compatibility fallback instead.
Usage is not a quality score, official tier ruling, or guarantee that a set is optimal. Samples can be affected by format activity, rating cutoff, new releases, balance changes, and player behavior.
PokéAPI Index
The Playthrough Team Planner, Random Pokémon Generator, and Who's That Pokémon game use a local index generated from PokéAPI, a community-maintained Pokémon API. The index contains fields such as names, Pokédex identifiers, types, generations, and form or special-status information used by those tools.
The index is generated ahead of deployment and served by FavePoke, so visitors do not request the full Pokédex from PokéAPI whenever they use a tool. Battle-ready forms can be represented separately where PokéAPI exposes mechanically distinct records; purely cosmetic records are not intentionally duplicated in the main picker pool.
FavePoke also builds a local Simplified Chinese name index from PokéAPI localization tables. The Chinese interface uses it for Pokémon, moves, items, abilities, and natures while retaining stable Showdown identifiers and English export names. If an upstream entity has no reliable Chinese record, the interface falls back to its source name rather than inventing a translation.
Pokémon Artwork and Sprites
Pokémon artwork and sprites displayed by FavePoke are sourced from the PokéAPI sprites project. FavePoke copies the selected, versioned files into its own Cloudflare R2 storage and serves them through a FavePoke asset route. This avoids depending on a live third-party image host during ordinary use.
FavePoke does not use the Pokémon Showdown sprite library for the current site artwork. A local placeholder can appear if a requested asset is unavailable.
The underlying Pokémon imagery and related intellectual property belong to their respective rights holders. FavePoke does not claim ownership of Pokémon names, characters, artwork, or other franchise materials.
Update and Accuracy Method
Catalogs, usage statistics, the PokéAPI index, and sprite copies are generated or synchronized by project scripts. Competitive catalog versions and active statistics dates are exposed in the Team Builder; this page's “Last updated” date tracks material changes to the sourcing or methodology description.
Snapshots improve reproducibility and availability, but they are not real-time feeds. A source can change after a FavePoke snapshot is deployed. For tournament decisions, consult current official rules and validate an exported team on the actual play platform.
Independent Fan Project
FavePoke is an independent, unofficial fan-made tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, Creatures Inc., GAME FREAK inc., Pokémon Showdown, Smogon, or PokéAPI.
Pokémon and related names, characters, and imagery are trademarks and/or copyrights of their respective owners. Community-source links above identify the projects used; they do not imply endorsement.
FavePoke-Created Material
The FavePoke name, original letter-mark logo, site interface, explanatory copy, selection flow, and FavePoke-specific analysis and generation code were created for this project. The interface avoids presenting the service as an official Pokémon product.
