Multi-setup offense · Gen 9 OU

Hatterene + Dragonite Offense

An anti-hazard offense for proactive matchups: Hatterene disrupts passive setup with Magic Bounce, Nuzzle, and Psychic Noise, then four distinct sweepers overload the opponent’s limited defensive turns.

Game plan

How the six slots work together

Bring Hatterene into predictable hazards or recovery turns, not blindly into every setter: Nuzzle slows revenge killers and Psychic Noise blocks recovery long enough for the next attacker to make progress. Great Tusk still has to place Stealth Rock and remove hazards that land through direct attacks, Knock Off, or unfavorable positioning; preserving clean entry lanes also protects Dragonite’s Multiscale. Ogerpon-Wellspring and Dragonite pressure the physical answers, Raging Bolt offers a Calm Mind route plus Thunderclap priority, and Kingambit waits until those attackers have traded for checks. Commit Tera only after the opponent reveals whether Dragonite’s Tera Normal Extreme Speed or Raging Bolt’s Tera Fairy gives the cleaner finish.

When to use this team

  • Best into hazard-centric balance and slower offense that give Hatterene a predictable utility turn and cannot cover four setup routes with one answer.
  • Less comfortable against immediate wallbreakers that never need a status or hazard turn; in those games, lead for tempo and treat Magic Bounce as a bonus.

Lead options

  • Hatterene into passive or obvious hazard leads that cannot threaten a fast knockout; use Nuzzle when reflection is not guaranteed.
  • Great Tusk when the opponent leads with immediate physical pressure and Stealth Rock or Rapid Spin matters more than reflection.
  • Ogerpon-Wellspring into Water- or Ground-oriented openings where it can threaten damage without spending the team’s Tera.

Win conditions

  • Ogerpon-Wellspring removes or weakens the physical wall, allowing Dragonite to use Dragon Dance and Tera Normal Extreme Speed.
  • Raging Bolt uses Calm Mind against the opponent’s special pivot and preserves Thunderclap for faster revenge killers.
  • Kingambit cleans after the other setup threats trade for checks and Supreme Overlord boosts the final Sucker Punch exchange.

Watch for

  • Magic Bounce does not remove hazards already on the field, and capable setters can attack or use Knock Off instead; Great Tusk remains essential.
  • Booster Energy is one-use on both Great Tusk and Raging Bolt, so avoid triggering either merely to scout an early attack.
  • Do not spend Tera before identifying whether the opponent’s remaining speed control is priority, a Choice Scarf user, or raw Speed.

Possible replacements

  • Gholdengo can replace Raging Bolt for stronger removal denial and a Steel typing, but the team loses Thunderclap and its special setup route.
  • Zamazenta can replace Ogerpon-Wellspring for more Speed and physical resilience, but removes Water Absorb and a direct Water-type breaker.
  • Cinderace can replace Great Tusk for Court Change and U-turn tempo only if another slot is changed to supply Stealth Rock.
